Childcare That Empowers Women

In Uganda’s bustling marketplaces, women form the backbone of economic activity. Yet while they trade, sell, and build their livelihoods, many face a persistent challenge: finding safe and reliable care for their young children. Too often, children are left unattended or placed in unsafe environments, putting them at risk and limiting both the mother’s productivity and the child’s development.

At Meadows International School, we provide a practical, community-centered solution. We establish affordable childcare centers directly within marketplaces and other high-demand areas, so women can work productively while their children receive professional care in safe, nurturing spaces.

Our nurseries are staffed by trained nannies, skilled in providing attentive supervision and age-appropriate early learning activities that build a strong foundation for children’s future success. And because accessibility is at the heart of our model, mothers pay only 5,000 UGX per day, making quality childcare possible even for those with the lowest incomes.

The impact is twofold: children benefit from structured early learning experiences, while mothers gain peace of mind and the freedom to focus on earning a sustainable income. This strengthens families, boosts community resilience, and advances gender equality, poverty reduction, and child wellbeing.

We are now seeking partners to expand this initiative and scale its impact. With the right support, we can reach more marketplaces, train more caregivers, and ensure thousands of children receive the safe start they deserve while their mothers work towards brighter futures.
